Colette personality poses
During my tenure as a technical director in the Creative Services department at Pixar, one of my primary responsibilities was the creation of high-resolution poses for the film’s major characters. These publicity stills conveyed a sense of the character’s attitude and persona, and were used to promote the film by the studio and its marketing partners. Starting with poses provided by the animation department, I set up a high-resolution shot for each pose and generated the simulation data for Colette’s hair and clothing. I then lit, rendered, composited and paintfixed/Photoshopped each pose into a final finished image. For the Disney/Pixar film Ratatouille, I greatly enjoyed creating all of the personality poses for Colette, my favorite character in the film.
Paintfixes & retouching
After the images were lit and rendered they were brought into Photoshop for further refinement. Simulation errors (of hair, fur, cloth, etc), texture problems (seams, scaling issues) and final lighting tweaks were handled with layers of digital paint, to create the final finished images. It was imperative that painted additions matched the image perfectly and seamlessly.
